Toronto gets festive! Actually it's even more festive now, what with ACTUAL SNOW having fallen and stayed on the ground. I realise this is not exciting to anyone who has experienced winter recently, but I've been on the West Coast for five winters, so I'm ready for all-singing, all-dancing, twinkly snow enthusiasm. This photo is an experiment in faking an effect known as tilt-shift, which requires fancy lenses that I don't have. What it gives you is a tiny area of focus in a shot (like a wide landscape) that would normally be entirely sharp or entirely blurred. This produces a weirdly toylike landscape, the effect of which can be faked by non-fancy-camera owners like myself using the magic of photoshop. Check out some way more awesome examples in the flick pool.
